The points of the competition contribution are: re-using the existing historical parts (requirement of the jury) of the old saxonia fountain from 1893 · a module principle as the general project idea · reassembling the old stone parts of the fountain but accenting the separation distances of each element · illumination of the separation distances · assembling parts with contemporary imagery · instead of the formerly allegorical figures (melted down) inserting a media module with diplays · the inhabitants and visitors of Chemnitz could inform themselves about the current activities of the town nowadays, the today’s wells - about developments, ideas, initiatives and corporations · instead of the old saxonia figure (also melted down) a column made of yellow cuboids as a symbol of shouldering the fundamentals of the state (like the saxonia does) is intended · positioning cuboids near and around the fountain

Grundlage des Entwurfs ist die Wiederverwendung der erhaltenen Originalteile des alten Saxoniabrunnens von 1893 mit einem deutlichen Fugenabstand. An die Stelle der ehemaligen allegorischen Brunnenfiguren wird ein Technikmodul aus Edelstahl mit Display gesetzt. Über eine touchscreen-gesteuerte Multimediapräsentation können sich die Einwohner und Besucher über die heutigen »Quellen« der Stadt Chemnitz informieren. Gemeint sind damit städtische Initiativen, Firmen und Kooperationen. Eine Säule als Symbol stadt- und staatstragender Grundlagen an der Stelle der ehemaligen Figur der Saxonia nimmt das ursprüngliche Thema des Brunnens abstrahiert auf. Die Quader dienen gleichzeitig als Sitzobjekte auf dem Platz und sind so Verweis auf eine demokratisch legitimierte Gesellschaft.
